We get swallowed up whole by stupid things like COVID-19 and clouds, but the silver linings prevail. Damned if they don't. It's so easy to see the glum and hear all the dismay, but we need to continue to look at the pretty things that lie not too far beneath because they sit waiting for us!
Central Park continues to bloom, the Atlantic Ocean continues to roll. The park is getting greener and the sand is getting warmer and warmer with each passing day, and the builders continue to build so that you and I and everyone else can have a wonderful place to bring our families and friends. Fellowship awaits, my friends.
Earlier this spring I traveled to NYC to pick up my son from his prematurely disrupted sophomore year at Marymount Manhattan College. I made it up the turnpike in record time, but not quite as fast as the white Maserati that blew past me (...haha, I think there's at least one every trip...), then I sat talking to the toll booth guy while I counted out my $16 for the Lincoln Tunnel (...because nobody was behind me... hear me...N O B O D Y...), and I made it from 36th to 57th in about 3.5 minutes. New P.R. But all that wasn't the silver lining in an already shutdown New York City. The tourists were gone, sure; but the locals were out. It's their town. They love their town. New Yorkers are an extraordinarily strong and fiercely loving breed. They protect their tribe like nothing else you'll ever see. And Central Park is in bloom. I caught a good peek and it just made me smile. Now, THAT's the silver lining I'm talkin' about, ALL of it, and it stretched from the New Jersey Turnpike to E. 55th and then back out again. I am forever grateful to have NYC blood running through my veins (it's also Irish & Catholic,... but we'll save that for another day), and it runs through my son's too. My parents both born & raised -- Mom in Washington Heights and Dad in Ozone Park; I know they're delighted with the knowledge of offspring that have managed to find their way back to the homeland, and love it like they did.
Find your strength, loves. Don your masks, go peek at the Park, and wax up your surfboards — your silver linings await. Bring them home, your people. Bring them to the places that grow the memories. City, country, or ocean -- it doesn't matter, as long as you're together ... AT HOME.... Its where we’re meant to be, and its where they’re asking us to be.
Homes like this one are meant for big times and if you're like me and don't own one yet, we'll dream and plan together and someday get enough keys made for everyone!
After quarantine. #behealthy#besafe
